The Answer to the Restoration World
Mr. Mopar, Mark Worman is excited for their new season of Graveyard Carz, and he is also just as enthusiastic about OER's ever so growing offering of restoration products. "Parts that look exactly right and fit, and go on the car correctly" how Mark puts it is what OER is about. We are glad that Mark is happy with what we continue to bring every year to the SEMA Show, and what we offer to the classic automotive restoration industry altogether.

    OER panels are far from exact stock matches. They use thinner metal and the mounts and shapes are wrong to the point that you will spend days just to get these close to fitting. I've used both fenders, both door skins and a tail light panel. NONE fit well and took too long to make fit. I bought them so I didn't spend a ton of time repairing the stock panel's. Should have stayed with the stock panels...

    OER- is there any installation instruction available for this product. I recently purchased this kit for my 1967 Impala and I'm trying to find out why my horn button is SUPER sensitive. HELP!

    • @randallpierce8761
      @randallpierce8761 3 роки тому

      about 4 hrs of stare time on this issue and I got it. Take the 3 screw horn button assy off, take a picture of how it is assembled, take it apart..all of it. First, push out the 3 pins that hold the spring pressure plate together. Save the plastic buttons, discard the pins. The spring tension wave washer plate will need to be bent open to actually apply tension from the 3 small areas on the plate. When it is laid down on a flat area, it should have at least 1/16th to 3/32 ish spring pressure as you press down. Go to the hobby store and buy 3 each, 4-40 threaded screws [about 5/16ths long] and nuts to replace the plastic pins that you removed. A little more screw length wont hurt a thing. You may want to trim off a tiny protrusion from each of the plastic buttons on the end that spreads open. This is largely the problem with the design as when the pins are there , the buttons are expanded and it keeps the spring tension from doing it's job, as it must float. Tighten the screws and nuts only to a point to not affect the needed spring tension! You will need to loctite or somehow secure the nuts to the screws so they don"t move. I also had to lathe make a spring sleeve to be able to mate 2 springs together for correct contact length to get the horn to even work at all. Last thing I had to do was trim the casted pins off the backside of the horn button itself. No assembly instructions, and a way cheap done contact hardware assembly makes this kit a lot of work to make right. As this kit is sent, no one is likely to get a horn that works right without owner involvement.

    I put this dash pad on my 68 SS and the result is less than desirable. The leading edge of this pad is way too flexible and when the nuts are tightened the pad flexes way too much. The results are depressions in the pad above each attach point. It looks terrible. One would think that if GM would sanction this part as their own, it would fit like it should. Not sure what the fix to mine is. Perhaps I will remove it and bond some sort of stiffener to the back face of the pad and reinstall.

    would this accelerate rust on all the hard to reach areas?

    • @overcastfriday81
      @overcastfriday81 6 років тому

      Try this. Buy some acid from your home improvement store. Drop in dirty, painted, rusty grade 8 bolts. Let them soak overnight. Now pull them out, and don't blow dry them. This simulates those hard to reach crevices. Will the acid continue to eat metal? No way -- it's strength is knocked down and in 1 week, the acid liquid has no effect on the metal. It would have some embrittlement effect on the bolts, and they're probably only as strong as grade 5. If you use evaporust instead of muriatic acid, the embrittlement would be too slight to even care. It's just very expensive to immerse big things in evaporust.

    • @overcastfriday81
      @overcastfriday81 6 років тому

      The embrittlement would take place in a matter of minutes...it's not something that would continue days after the diipping. So hard to reach crevices are a non-issue, but you have to ask yourself if you want more brittle metal.

    After so much hard work, dedication, and money, the car just looks wrong. The paint scheme sucks. It does not compliment the car at all. And the wheels? Original 1964 Impala hub caps would have looked better. They ruined it, and totally missed the mark.
